Get Results for your Home

Your furniture project doesn’t have to be a gamble.

Residential

We understand that you’re making an investment in your home and we’re committed to helping you make that investment wisely. By asking questions about who you share your home with and what kinds of wear the piece will receive, we gain a solid understanding of your needs. We pair that information with our extensive knowledge of upholstery fabrics and wood finishes to come up with solutions you love that will last for years to come.

How We Work

Our Process

Our 3 step process from idea to final delivery.
ideas & inspiration

1. Ideas & Inspiration

After an initial conversation, we’ll take a look at your piece. For smaller items that are easy to transport, we’ll have you come to us for an in-shop appointment. For larger items or multiple pieces, we’ll schedule an in-home consultation with you to assess your goals for your piece(s) and ‘diagnose’ your needs. We’ll look at fabrics and finish samples together and determine the best options for you and your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost depends on the piece, its current condition, and the scope of work — whether it needs new fabric, foam replacement, structural repairs, refinishing, or all of the above. The fastest way to get a ballpark estimate is to email photos of your piece to info@finishpros.com, and one of our residential design consultants will follow up. We also offer free in-home and in-shop consultations for a more detailed evaluation.

Most residential reupholstery projects take 4 to 8 weeks. The exact timeline depends on the fabric you select (some require longer lead times to special-order), the size and complexity of the piece, and our current production schedule. We'll give you a clear timeline once we've evaluated the piece and finalized your fabric.

Furniture refinishing typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. Timing varies based on what your piece needs — whether it requires regluing, full strip and stain, color matching, lacquer work, or detailed antique restoration. We always plan around your timeline and walk you through each step before any work begins.

Yes. Finish Pros offers free in-shop and in-home design consultations for residential clients. In-shop appointments are great for smaller pieces and fabric selection, while in-home consultations are ideal for sofas, sectionals, dining sets, or anyone evaluating multiple pieces at once. Call (919) 848-3848 or email info@finishpros.com to schedule.

We can reupholster nearly any well-built piece, but the best candidates are typically antiques, vintage furniture, and quality brands like Ethan Allen, Bassett, Henredon, Hickory Chair, and Restoration Hardware. These pieces are built with hardwood frames and traditional joinery that hold up beautifully to reupholstery — often outlasting brand-new mass-market furniture. If you're not sure whether your piece is a good candidate, send a photo to info@finishpros.com and we'll let you know.

In most cases, yes — especially if the piece has a solid hardwood frame, sentimental value, or was made by a quality manufacturer. The math often favors reupholstery: a quality custom-reupholstered sofa typically costs less than a comparable new high-end sofa, and the frame is usually built better than what's on showroom floors today. The best way to know for sure is to email photos to info@finishpros.com or schedule a free consultation so our residential design consultants can evaluate the piece in person.

Yes — heirloom and antique restoration is one of our specialties. We take extra care with pieces that carry sentimental value, whether it's your great-grandmother's rocking chair, a family dining table, or a vintage piece you've loved for decades. Our craftsmen are experienced with traditional joinery, hand-cut details, and period-appropriate finishes. Send photos to info@finishpros.com and we'll talk through the right approach for your piece.

Yes. We reupholster all types of outdoor furniture and offer outdoor-rated cushions, foam inserts, and weather-resistant fabrics designed to handle North Carolina's sun, humidity, and pollen. This includes patio furniture, porch seating, sunroom pieces, and pool deck cushions.

At this time, we only take on recliner work for commercial projects — not residential. Reclining mechanisms and electronics often require manufacturer-specific parts that are difficult to source aftermarket. If you have a residential recliner, we recommend contacting the original manufacturer for the best results. You're welcome to send a photo to info@finishpros.com — if it's something we can help with, we'll let you know.

Yes. We replace foam regularly, and we can also adjust the firmness, density, and overall thickness of your cushions. If your sofa or chair has gone soft, sags in the middle, or has lost its shape, new foam (sometimes paired with new fiber or down wraps) can completely transform how the piece sits and looks — often without needing full reupholstery.

Webbing is the structural support system that runs underneath the cushions of a sofa or chair — typically interwoven straps that distribute weight and keep seating firm and supportive. Over time, webbing stretches, snaps, or sags, which is why an older piece can start to feel like you're sinking into the frame. Yes, we offer rewebbing as part of our reupholstery and restoration services, and it's often paired with new foam for a complete refresh.

Yes, we do cushion-only projects regularly. If the frame and main upholstery are still in good shape but the seat or back cushions are worn, faded, or stained, recovering just the cushions is a cost-effective way to refresh the piece. Call (919) 848-3848 to schedule a consultation.

The best way is to schedule an in-shop fabric consultation with one of our residential design consultants. We carry a wide range of fabrics across price points and styles, and we'll help you weigh durability, cleanability, color, texture, and how the piece will be used day to day. Bringing photos of your room (or the piece itself, if it's small) helps us narrow things down quickly.

Both options are available. We carry an in-shop selection of fabrics from leading brands including Charlotte Fabrics, Mag Fabrics, and Greenhouse Fabrics — with more than 38 textile, leather, and vinyl partners in total. You're also welcome to provide your own fabric (COM, or "customer's own material"), though a cutting fee applies for materials we don't supply.

Yes. We carry an excellent selection of pet- and kid-friendly performance fabrics — including options that resist stains, repel liquid, stand up to claws and rough play, and clean easily with mild soap or bleach-based cleaners. Our designers will walk you through the choices that fit your lifestyle and your furniture.

Durability depends on the type of fabric, the construction of the piece, how often it's used, and how it's cared for. Generally, tightly woven fabrics, performance synthetics, and quality leathers last longest, while delicate weaves and natural fibers like silk are best reserved for low-traffic pieces. Our design team can recommend the right material for your specific piece, your household, and how you actually live with the furniture.
